Private Classes in soft glass or borosilicate in my home studio: I am able to do a class for 1 or 2 people for soft glass and one person only for borosilicate glass. The cost is $40/hr. for one person and $35/hr. each for 2 people. I usually recommend a 2-3 hour class to start with. I gear the class to whatever you are looking for. If you are interested in setting up your own studio, we can talk about those issues, or if you just want to try it out to see if it is for you, we can start that way. In a beginning class I would cover safety, glass types, dipping mandrels, basic round beads, pulling stringer, making a twisty, bead shapes, dots and so on. If you have some experience, we could get into more bead shapes, foils, enamels, encasing etc. With the boro we will discuss the chemistry of the colors and the differences in working with boro if you are used to soft glass. We will cover beads and pendants. These classes are scheduled individually when we can find a time that works for both parties. You can email or call me at 610-670-3104 to schedule a class (email is easier for me as I am often unavailable to answer the phone).

I offer individual instruction in beginning to intermediate glass beadmaking (lampworking) in my home studio. I only teach one-on-one, because I feel this offers a more satisfying experience for the student, and  we can go at a pace that is most conducive to learning for each individual; slower if you need more time, and a faster pace if you have some background or catch on quickly! There is a emphasis on safety, although you will learn all the basic of glass beadmaking, make some beautiful beads to take home, and have lot of fun! (I like to laugh.) All necessary equipment, materials and lunch is included in my one or two day classes. I can also offer a bed and breakfast arrangement staying in my guestroom, if you are coming from far away.

Course description. The class consists of three classroom sessions and three lab sessions. All necessary tools and equipment are supplied. Each classroom session is approximately one hour long. These sessions are an orientation to familiarize the student with the equipment, tools, what to expect in terms of the heat, safety procedures and preliminary techniques of glass blowing. The remainder of the program consists of three individual lab sessions in front of the furnace. The student will actually make their first piece of glass, a paperweight, during their first session. During the second session the student can expect to make two tumblers. The third session consists of refining the initial techniques learned in the first two sessions, addition of color and the making of a small vase. Once a student has completed these first three lab sessions, the student can continue to develop their glass blowing skills through private instruction.
